How To Buy A Used Honda Civic
My father would never encourage you to buy a used Honda Civic;
“Buying a used car is buying someone else’s problems,” he’d say.
And while his admonition made some sense twenty years ago, buying a used Honda Civic today is a pretty safe bet if you go about it the right way.
To begin with, the Civic is recognized as one of the most dependable and trouble-free cars on the road. That alone greatly increases you chances of finding a used one that will provide you with many miles of trouble-free driving. Also, they are plentiful. The Civic consistently ranks as one of the top five selling new cars in the US so finding a few to look at should be easy.
Dealer vs. Private Individual
Both have their benefits. Purchasing a used Honda Civic from a private owner will likely cost less than buying one from a dealer. And the individual can tell you everything about the car’s history since he’s owned the car. However, the private
individual cannot offer you a warranty nor is he bound by the legalities a dealer must adhere to. You will probably pay more for a used Honda civic if you purchase it from a dealer; but you get some additional assurances of a long and happy relationship with your new car that may be worth the extra up-front outlay. The dealer has a reputation to protect so at the very least he will inspect the car to ascertain that there are no major problems that would cause a buyer remorse or distress.
Your safest bet for a used Civic is a Certified Used from a Honda dealer. Honda certification requires the dealer to do a thorough mechanical and cosmetic inspection, and replace/repair anything that doesn’t mee Hond’as stringent requirements. A certified used Honda Civic comes with a 12 month/12,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and the drivetrain is warrantied for seven years or 100,000 miles from when the car was purchased new.
Whether you used Honda Civic comes from a private individual or a dealer there is a good chance you’ll have purchase a car that will deliver many thousands of miles of relaible driving pleasure. Good luck!
