Pepper White
why does white pepper taste so bad to me?
Last night at dinner in my favorite restaurant, I had a blackened fish, I’ve had blackened fish many times before, and have enjoyed every dish on the menu here.
Well I found it had a very strange flavor. I asked the the waitress to ask the chef what were the spices,,, she came back with a simple list of great spices, that I have even used in my own kitchen, The last one was WHITE PEPPER. The waitress said, she didn’t care much for it, so I had the chef send out some of his white pepper, and one other spice, that might have been guity…
On the second taste of the white pepper I was gagging.
Is it just me? do others taste this bad flavor? I know some folks taste similar weirdness in cilantro or beets..,
I’m going to avoid it!

I’ve enjoyed 1000′s of spices around the world, I’ve never actually isolated it to one spice.
uh , that should have been “I’d never isolated”, until now!
Why? Because it’s terrible. White pepper is usually badly prepared, musty, bland, and doesn’t do anything for the flavour of the dish. Do yourself a favour: stick with freshly ground black pepper.
